I have two rescue dogs who both go to Millis Animal Hospital. the dogs are not friendly and can get feisty during any vet exam or procedures. the group at Millis is WONDERFUL with them and always professional

Our two cats, Mandy and Abe, have been patients of Millis for about two years. We have been so happy with the care and treatment of both of them that I cannot say enough. Everyone from the front staff to the techs to the doctors has been great. We are so lucky to have them in Millis.

My husband and I brought our Yorkie, Sophie, to Millis Animal Hospital for a second opinion after feeling uncertain about the necessity of an abdominal ultrasound that had been strongly recommended elsewhere as we already have an echo scheduled at the other vet for heart issues. The supposed purpose of that imaging was to evaluate for Cushing’s disease or early kidney dysfunction; however, having previously cared for two dogs with Cushing’s, I was aware that an ultrasound is not always a requisite diagnostic step. Compounding our hesitation, Sophie’s laboratory results did not demonstrate elevated ALB values, which made the initial recommendation feel somewhat incongruous and, frankly, financially overwhelming given our current personal circumstances. Our prior experience at this other facility was, regrettably, impersonal and dismissive. Despite Sophie exhibiting clear signs of distress—panting excessively, becoming overheated, and barking uncontrollably—we were made to feel more like an inconvenience than concerned pet owners seeking guidance. There was a palpable lack of empathy and a reluctance to explore alternative, less invasive diagnostic approaches. In stark contrast, our experience with Millis Animal Hospital was nothing short of exceptional. From the very first phone call, the staff was gracious, accommodating, and efficient, securing us an appointment the very next day. Upon arrival, we were met with kindness and patience, and were even allowed to keep Sophie comfortable outside until the doctor was ready—an incredibly thoughtful gesture given her anxiety. Dr. H and her technician exemplify what compassionate veterinary care should look like. Their thoroughness, attentiveness, and willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue immediately set them apart. At no point did we feel rushed; instead, Dr. H took the time to thoughtfully explain multiple diagnostic pathways for ruling out Cushing’s, while also introducing the possibility of hypothyroidism—something that had not even been mentioned previously to us by the prior vet, but her lab tests showed it. Her demeanor was both warm and professional, and her clinical acumen was evident in the deliberate, unhurried manner in which she evaluated Sophie. Notably, she took additional time to reassess Sophie in the back and was able to detect a faint heart murmur—something that had been previously overlooked. That level of diligence instilled a great deal of confidence in her care. Small but meaningful touches, such as offering Sophie treats and conducting a follow-up call the next day to check on her progress, further underscored the practice’s genuine commitment to both their patients and their owners. Millis Animal Hospital, and Dr. H in particular, distinguish themselves through a rare combination of medical expertise, compassion, and integrity. We are profoundly grateful to have found them and feel reassured knowing Sophie is in such capable hands.

You feel like your pet is the most important, and best patient when you’re with them, their attention and patience is unmatched.
