We adopted 2 cats about 3.5 years ago and went to Winter Hill Vet up until recently. Out of the many visits that we had there, I think only 1 of the visits did we feel welcomed & like a priority. Most of the visits when we went there the staff were cold and dismissive. Several times they barely gave us the time of day, & they often didn’t even invite us to go inside the exam rooms with our cats, so we were left in the waiting room with no idea what was going on. The few times when they did make time to talk to us, we often felt shamed or talked down to, even just for asking questions, or for small things like “not brushing our cats hair good enough” (end though we groom our cats weekly). I wish the staff would have a better bedside manner, and if they had genuine concerns, perhaps they could try being empathetic, transparent, and take the time to educate their clients rather than simply talking down to them. On top of all this, the pricing was not very transparent, so after dealing with staff who seemed like they didn’t want us there, we also felt like we were being charged for every little thing. 2 times we needed to bring our cats to an urgent care because Winter Hill Vet was unable to accommodate last-minute emergency situations. The urgent care clinics that we went to (Bond Vet in assembly square and PetMedic in Cambridge) had staff that were MUCH nicer, explained everything in detail, and truly cared about their clients (animal and human). I wish Winter Hill was the same. Luckily we recently moved away from Somerville and we are having much better luck with our new vet. If you are in the Somerville area, I would look for other vets.

This is the best vet in the state of MA. I made sure to find fear-free certified vets, and that’s how I found Dr. Hummer. My dog (6 yo, spayed, mix, rescue) is terrified of going to the vet, and Dr. Hummer played with her and got to know her before he started his exam. You actually couldn’t tell that he was examining her because he was so gentle and loving towards my dog. This vet answers all my questions and is always a joy to see. My girl loves the vet now!!

Our little dog has MANY health issues that need to be managed. We are so happy to have Dr. Peabody taking care of our sweet problematic chihuahua. Everyone here cares so much about giving our dog every chance at a happy and healthy life.

I had to put my cat down yesterday and the level of care I received for both Eugene and I through the process was amazing. This was my first time meeting Dr.Hummer and it felt like he knew Eugene and I for the entire proccess. Dr.Peabody has always been great as well, and everyone in the office loved him as much as I did. Thank you for sharing laughs and chicken with him, and thank you all for always providing the best care for my little, sassy guy. I will hold him and you all in my heart forever!!
